Why a Support Team?
InterVarsity is a worldwide ministry reaching college students with the gospel of Jesus Christ.  As a full time campus missionary, I will be dedicating my time to leading and mentoring college students into the fullness of following Jesus.  This includes worship, teaching, evangelism, justice, discipleship, and spiritual disciplines of the Christian life.  But I can't do this full time without help, both financial and prayer.  To be a full time campus missionary requires raising 100% of your salary through ministry partners such as yourself.  Although some way see it as a burden, a support team is really not about money at all, but is it's own form of ministry of bringing people into the movement of God on campus.

Won't you please prayerfully consider joining my prayer and financial support team and partner with me in this important and fruitful ministry?  Joining my support team would mean joining in this ministry with me, through prayer, financial support, and advocacy.  If this sounds like something you would like to be a part of, either through prayer and financial support or just prayer, please sign up above with your email and name and you will be given a monthly update about what I'm up to on campus and how you can pray for my campus, my students, and me.

Why give?

At first, I was very skeptical about raising funds to support myself.  But soon God showed me that being dependent on God means also being dependent on His people.  If I am going to really dedicate myself fully to seeing God move on the college campus, I have to do it full time and be willing to ask for help.  But what's exciting is that by asking God's people, I am asking God's hands and feet, the body of Christ himself.  So if I trust God to provide, I can trust His people just as much!

My hope is that whatever you would be able to give, whatever your circumstances, you would give in the spirit of the Macedonian church who, "In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity."  Who "gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people."  Therefore, "since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving (2 Cor. 8:2-7)."  Raising support is actually a privilege for me to call people into sharing in my ministry and to "excel in the grace of giving."

What will my money go toward?

Your financial support will go toward everything that makes it possible for me to be a campus missionary.  This includes mundane things like rent, food, gas, student loan payments, and phone bills.  It will also pay for ministerial needs such as advertising supplies, music supplies for worship, or meals with students for disciplining and mentoring.  Most importantly, this money makes it possible to dedicate myself fully to serving the college campus.  Practically, this money goes directly to InterVarsity USA, who will then pay my salary with your money.  This allows your gift to be deductible and also allows me to be employed by InterVarsity, meaning I will be able to go on their insurance, plus other benefits.  At this point, some of your money will go to paying the InterVarsity ministry as a whole, but I will end up seeing your money again through discounted gas and tickets to conferences and other events.  In the spirit of giving, I will be giving 10% of my income to my local church and other local ministries.

I want to help but cannot support financially at this time.
Supporting my ministry is not just about money! I need people to cover me, my ministry, my campus, and students in prayer.  As we saw at Pentecost, prayer is the foundation of any movement of the Spirit of God and a strong prayer support team is even more important than finances.  Prayer and financial support are both indispensable to my ministry on college campuses.  This not about others giving me their money or prayer so I can do ministry, this really is about joining a team where we do ministry together. We are just different parts of the same body! That means that if all you can give is 10 minutes of prayer once a week, I would be overjoyed to have your support.

Additionally, I need advocates, people who will direct me towards their friends and colleagues who need to hear about this opportunity and what God is doing on these college campuses.  If you would like to help support me through prayer or advocacy, please sign up for me email list and contact me indicating how you would like to help.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact me via the Contact Me page at the top.

Thanks and God bless!

8 Keys to Understanding Today's Hobby Lobby Ruling

My legal mind really enjoyed reading the Hobby Lobby case today. Here are 8 keys to understanding the ruling, it actually makes a ton of sense. 1. Hobby Lobby already provided 16 of the 20 contraceptives mandated by the Affordable Care Act. They only objected to IUDs and morning after pills that may prevent implantation of a fertilized egg, thereby violating their religious beliefs that life begins at conception and should be protected. 2. The Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) was an act passed by a Democratic Congress in 1993 (and signed by Clinton) that reiterated religious protection of all "persons" by requiring that any law, even if applying to the general public, must not "substantially burden" one's religious convictions without being for a "compelling government interest" and using the "least restrictive means."

7 Responses to the Misleading Hobby Lobby Aftermath

The Law is reason free from passion. - Aristotle I was very disturbed by the aftermath of the Hobby Lobby ruling yesterday, both from my friends on social media, from bloggers online, and from politicians with real power and influence. After I read the case and wrote a basic outline , I kept hearing people, over and over again, say things that simply were not true. There was a lot of passionate rhetoric that had no substance in reality. At best, this response is proof that our political discourse has truly devolved into ignorant soundbites that get the most clicks and votes, where truth is an afterthought. At worst, politicians and pundits are deliberately deceiving people to rile up your base and smear political opponents. It's probably a little bit of both. Remember the narrative pushed by the left: the Republican war on women. It's not about Truth, it's about the narrative that helps re-election. I picked out a few of the deceptive untrue or irrelevent memes I ...

Portrait of a Prophet: Daniel (spoken word full text)

After much prayer and reflection, I gave this spoken word poem at Vineyard Community Church on 4/6/14 over the life of Daniel the Prophet. On The Shores of Babylon Daniel's Answer to The King by Briton Riviere (1890) God is my Judge That’s what my name means You may know me as Daniel But they even tried to take that from me I know you live in an age of plenty You think yourselves quite mighty And scoff at the idea of tyranny But take a minute, remove this cultural context which is so blinding And step into my shoes, you’ll see what I mean
